Sports Debate Club
The PCEP Sports Debate club is officially underway with its first appearance at the Park. The club aims to unite students at the Park in friendly debates about various sports topics such as the NFL’s most valuable players and upcoming game predictions. Just raise your hand, and your opinion will be heard. Or, you may opt to sit back and observe while listening to others share their thoughts.
The meetings typically starts with a discussion question about a well know sports team, and after it is read and digested, everybody chimes in with their opinions.
A popular activity amongst the club is their contender vs pretender bit. The club’s vice president and Plymouth junior Tushar Jayram said, “We look at NFL teams who are on the bubble and debate whether they are contenders, meaning they are actually legitimate Super Bowl contenders, or pretenders, meaning they don’t have a shot at making The Super Bowl.”
At the end of every meeting, there is a possibility of being given the title as debater of the week. “The best debater usually talks a lot and argues for one position with a strong passion,” said co-president and Plymouth junior Alex Schafer.
Meetings for the club are held every Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Mr. Batell’s room in Plymouth 207C. Join the Sports Debate club
