Lillian Nguyen, Plymouth junior, and Timothy Wieber, Salem junior, were found late Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Alabama after being missing for five days.
On the same day, before Nguyen and Wieber were found, their friends and family planned a gathering at Heritage Park at 6 p.m. to bring support for the missing teens.
“A little under one hundred people were in and out,” said Manasi Sharma, Plymouth senior.
Sharma and other students had spread the word about the gathering through school emails to students and staff and also through social media. People who attended said they were there to bring love, support and ensure the safety of the missing teens.
Nguyen and Wieber were reported missing on Friday, Nov. 10, and they were suspected to be together. According to information released by the Canton police, Wieber had tried running away before. Alabama police found the missing teens by using the license plate on the car they were in.
Some friends of the teens, including Sharma, Canton junior Travis Lu and Salem junior Ovya Thiruvenkat, spoke at the ceremony.
There was also origami paper available for family and friends to write notes to Nguyen and Wieber. The paper was then folded into cranes and they planned to give them to the teens upon their arrival home.
