Director of Curriculum Responds With Censorship Criteria
According to Carlos Lopez, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, the criteria for selecting artwork that was displayed in the P-CCS District Art Show is determined by the “Arts Selection Guidelines for the Annual Art Show.”
The requirements Lopez highlighted include that all student art work must be their original work, “content that is sexually explicit, contain profanity, anti-racial content, unnecessarily violence to self or others, or contains nudity will not be displayed at the art show” and “content that promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, and firearms/weapons will not be displayed in the art show.”
The censored artwork and additional responses from teachers and students can be found in the news story “District Bans Artwork From Public Viewing.”
