Celebrate 50 years of Title IX with the Penguins girls hockey team

The P-CEP Girls Varsity Hockey team, the Penguins, invites girls in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district in grades six through twelve to come try hockey Sunday Dec 18. from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Arctic Edge Ice  Arena, in Canton, Mich., for its “Celebrating 50 years of Title IX” event.

The event is in honor of Title IX, a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination in any school or educational program that receives federal funding. The law has given women in sports the same athletic opportunities as men.

The event also coincides with 25 years of girls ice hockey in the state of Michigan. 

A ticket for the event costs $5 and includes a presentation on the history of Title IX as well as on ice hockey instruction including skate rental and an open skate pass for the day. Attendees will receive a PCS Penguins shirt, a souvenir puck, an invitation to a future Penguins home game and a snack.  A Girl Scout patch will be available for an additional $5.
