U.S. Rolls Past Russia
On Saturday afternoon, the United States Women’s Hockey Team posted their second shutout in as many days at the Women’s World Championships at USA Hockey Arena.
This time it was led by goaltender Maddie Rooney, who made 14 saves in the game. Seven different U.S. players had multi point games including Kendall Coyne, Brianna Decker and Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson.
Amanda Kessel opened the scoring for the U.S. late in the first period by putting in a rebound from a Monique Lamoureux-Morando breakaway. Coyne added an insurance marker with 7:52 left in the second period.
Fifty-six seconds later, Lamoureux-Davidson added one of her own, making the score 3-0. The U.S. would add another, making it 4-0 after the second period.
They added three more in the third to tally an impressive seven goals in the victory. The U.S. outshot Russia 34-14 in the game.
Kendall Coyne was awarded player of the game for the U.S.
