Every Friday morning, Salem junior Fillip Filkoski posts a picture on Instagram of his breakfast. He has kept this tradition going since his freshman year.

“Freshman year I just wanted to put something on my Instagram, so I woke up early one morning and I just did it,” said Filkoski. Now his almost 1,500 followers wait for his weekly post.

Filkoski said that he makes every breakfast that is posted. The breakfasts range from crepes to eggs and bacon. Most of his breakfasts are normal breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles. “I just try to stick to like the normal stuff,” said Filkoski.

“When someone first sees it, they’re like ‘Why do you do this?’ and I’m like, ‘Cause I just like breakfast,’” Filkoski said. “I just do it [because] other people enjoy it.”

Filkoski has also started selling merchandise that includes t-shirts, long sleeves, hats and stickers. The merchandise either comes with the FMB (Friday Morning Breakfast) logo or a golden spatula logo.

Jack Wagenschutz, Salem junior, is the graphic designer and creative force behind the merchandise. Wagenschutz said, “Golden spatula is kinda the thing if the FMB isn’t there, then the golden spatula is what you’re gonna want. That’s what you want people to recognize.” Filkoski and Wagenschutz agreed that the merchandise has been a collaborative thing.

Why the golden spatula? Filkoski said, “I need one symbol of myself just to kinda realize and then over the summer we did a promo video, and then I was like it just came to me a golden spatula. I like gold, and I use spatulas.”

The merchandise started with a couple of friends wanting a shirt, and then after that more people saw them and wanted some for them. It turned into a brand, and now Filkoski has sold over 80 items. His merchandise is currently sold on his website, fmbmerch.com.

In the future, Filkoski said he wants to turn his business into a nonprofit where he can make breakfast for other people. Filkoski said, “Anything to help other people out.”

One step he is taking for next year is to try and start a club at school called the Friday Breakfast Club. “We make breakfast and have a good time,” said Filkoski. His goal is to get people in the club to go out and volunteer in a nonprofit relating to breakfast and food.
