May 26 is a holiday known by most seniors as a day to sleep in, relax or adventure off to Cedar Point. The thought of having a day off of school for only seniors is great, but how did it all start?

According to reference.com, “Senior skip day is not a nationally designated day on the U.S. calendar. However, taking the day off or skipping school is followed by many graduating seniors. While senior skip day is not officially sanctioned by most schools, school officials are nevertheless aware that the day is celebrated every spring. A senior skip day can be a fun day as long as school officials are also okay with the tradition. Some school districts do not allow seniors to skip, particularly if the day is scheduled after a major senior event, such as the prom. Seniors are prevented from attending graduation if they take part in activities that interfere with testing during skip activities.”

P-CEP seniors, however, consider senior skip day a holiday. There are no known facts about who, where, when, why or how it started at the Park, but it is known that the district started calling it a day because most seniors didn’t show up that last Friday before their last week of school.

Teachers at the Park usually work around their schedule because of senior skip day. Is that affecting the learning of the possible younger classmen remaining at school? That is a debatable topic, but most likely it doesn’t because it is the end of the year and most classes are only preparing for finals.

Senior skip day is around the corner, and the seniors are ready.
