Students at P-CEP express themselves in many different ways. One major way being through their choice of clothing. “Since the Park is so big, there is a place for everyone, especially when it comes to fashion,” says Keli Osborne, fashion teacher a Salem High School.

Osborne has emphasized that there has been a jurassic shift in fashion throughout the past few years. “Fashion has become more comfortable in school,” says Osborne, and she has seen more “matching sets and comfort wear.” 

For the fashion class, Osborne gives students choice. “Kids get to choose what trends they want to incorporate and the pieces they make in my class. I get to see what this generation is liking.”

Reena Anyanwu, Canton junior, says that she accessorizes with jewelry to express her Nigerian culture. Anyanwu says  “I gets my beads from Nigeria, so by wearing the beads it allows me to express my culture while also adding a touch to a simple outfit.”

Pop culture influences student choice in fashion. Dami Giwi, Canton junior says, “I get a lot of my inspiration from social media and music artists such as Burna Boy.” Giwi says he likes Burna Boy’s choice of jeans and how “Burna Boy can take a simple outfit and make it look so clean.”

Old styles are coming back as well. Isabella Gatchalian, Plymouth junior says that she enjoys wearing baggy, low rise jeans, which is a trend that has came back from the 90’s. Gatchalian said that she wears baggy, low rise jeans because she says “it flatters my body the best.” 

“The possibilities are endless when it comes to the fashion world,” says Osborne,  “and it’s great to see how it’s changed overtime.”
