U.S. vs Canada in USAA Hockey

The United States started their tournament play at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth on March 31. After the team’s boycott ended Tuesday night, the team came to Plymouth to start their title defense against Canada.

In front of more than 3,000 fans, team USA got right to business downing Canada 2-0 in the first game of their Group A play. Brianna Decker opened the scoring for team USA with less than three minutes left to play in the second period The goal was assisted by Megan Bozak, sister of Tyler Bozak, who plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The hot start led USA to lead 21-8 in shots after the second period.

Four minutes into the third period, Gigi Marvin added another insurance goal to pad USA’s lead. That’s all team USA would need as goaltender Nicole Hensley would shut the door for team USA. Hensley made 18 saves on 18 shots, completing a shutout.

USA will play team Finland Saturday at 3:30 in the second game of their Group A play.
