What Kind of Gum is Best?

You might be surprised to learn all of the benefits of chewing gum. Gum-chewing has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain by twenty-five to forty percent, allowing for more flow of oxygen to your brain. Short-term memory has shown improvement while you chew. Chewing gum has also shown to make a person calmer, and feel more alert. With all these benefits, the obvious choice is to pick up a stick, but then there comes the question, which brand of gum is the best?

There are many different types of gum, including nicotine gum, caffeine gum, gum to freshen breath, or gum to just taste great! In my search for the best gum, I looked across many studies. The car-cup container of spearmint Eclipse is the gum with the flavor that lasts the longest, at about 6 and a half minutes. Dentyne Ice, with their 40-minute fresh breath claim, is the best at freshening your breath. I asked Northville High School student Casey McCord what his favorite gum was, and he told me it was Airheads gum saying it was “so good!” The overall best gum however, is Big League Chew. This has been a staple in school classrooms since it came out in its unique package in 1980. With a wide variety of flavors, I can try a new flavor each week. It has a particularly stringy texture that feels great in your mouth. It has a stretchy consistency, so you can blow huge bubbles. Big League Chew simply has the best flavor of any gum.
