Stella Wroblewski, Salem freshman, started cheering on the sidelines during fall of 2025. She always shows up to practice with a positive attitude, said Angelena Cassar, Salem Varsity Cheer Coach. She is currently cheering for the basketball team. The Perspective sat down with Wroblewski to discuss her experiences on the cheer team so far and how they execute different stunts.
Molly Okon: Why did you decide to start cheerleading?
Stella Wroblewski: I’ve been cheerleading since I was in seventh grade, and I knew I wanted to try out for high school, and I have always liked cheerleading.
MO: How much previous experience in tumbling did you have before joining the team?
SW: I would honestly say, not a lot.
MO: What goals do you hope to accomplish this season? And how close are you to achieving them?
SW: My main goal is to get my back tuck for football season, and I’m pretty close.Â
MO: Is there a specific stunt that you like doing in your routines? If so, what is it?
SW: Right now, we’re doing a ruby tune extension, basically where you spin up to the highest you can go with a stunt.
MO: What stunt or move looks easy on the outside but is actually really difficult to do?
SW: A Lib where you hold it. It just gets hard at times when you’re not steady in the air.
MO: As a cheerleader, you must have a lot of preparation for safety since there’s a lot of tumbling involved. How are you guys, as a team, able to spot and execute some advanced stunts so that no one gets hurt?
SW: We normally always try and practice beforehand, just putting them in a routine or performing them. And if we can’t get it at practice perfectly, then we’ll normally take it out and try something different.
MO: Especially with the tough stunts, there must be a lot going through your mind. Tell me how you mentally prepare for a cheer competition.
SW: I try and think of just the simple steps, and not just overthinking it and being scared, just getting up there and just staying tight.
MO: Do you plan on continuing cheer in the future?
SW: I definitely want to. I want to be a nurse, so if that gets too stressful, I don’t think I will, but I’m definitely gonna try.
MO: You must put a ton of trust into your teammates for these difficult stunts. Tell me how you guys are able to work together in order to gain these levels of trust.
SW: We definitely start with just ice breakers during practice, and I bond really quickly with my bases. You get to know them a lot.Â
MO: What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about trying out for the cheer team?
SW: I would tell you, just be yourself and just go for it, because it’s really easy to be a cheerleader. You just got to put all motivation and all your effort in.
MO: The last question is a little bit odd, but we just want to get to know your personality a bit better. So, if you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
SW: I wish I could go to the future and see myself and where I’m at.
