This spring, Plymouth, Canton and Salem baseball teams will all look to claim a Park Championship.

Plymouth is looking to build off of recent successes found in the program in the last two years, such as winning district championships, but unfortunately, in the past years they have fallen short of competing for a regional title.

Ultimately, Plymouth baseball has the same goals as last year, but they’re coming back for blood to win the regional title. Plymouth Senior and pitcher David Zylka said, “Our goals are to win our district again this year. We’ve won it the last two years, but we also want more than that; we’ve never been past the regional semis before, so to get two wins to be regional champs would be awesome. Also, we’re looking to compete for a state championship.”

As for the players who are stepping up as leaders for the Wildcats, Zylka said, “For seniors, [Brendan] Lacorato is our team captain, and he’s the one we look to for all our leadership.”

After beating Salem twice in the past, but falling to Canton in two games, Plymouth will look to take the top spot this year. “We believe we have the best team at the Park, and we beat Canton and Salem in districts last year,” said Zylka.

Canton also has high hopes going into this season. After having a very strong regular season last year with a 22-9 record, Canton looks to build off last year’s successful season as well.

Canton wishes to use last year’s success to not only drive their regular season, but also to help assist them in their playoff games. Canton senior and outfielder Jake O’Donnell said, “The goal is to make a deep playoff run and hopefully take it all the way.”

O’Donnell said the leaders on the team this season are Justin Donnely and AJ Brazalton. “[They] have been stepping up and will be good senior leaders to help out getting our team in check,” said O’Donnell.

Canton is looking to complete the final step of winning the district title and beating the other teams at the Park. O’Donnell said, “This year we’re hearing all the teams at the Park are pretty even, so we will wait to the spring to find out what happens on the diamond.”
