Penguins and Pioneers

The P-CEP Penguins took on the Ann Arbor Pioneers and mercied 8-0 in the third period. Goal after goal was scored in the first and second period; the Penguins finally pulled through and took the win. With no time at all, Plymouth Junior Michelle Cirino, number 18, started off the Penguins with a goal.

Cirino said, “Scoring the first goal of the Ann Arbor Pioneer game was a nice start to the game. It set the pace for the rest of the game.” Continuing with two goals, only 30 seconds apart, was Catherine Vandenbosch 11 minutes into the game. Vandenbosch said, “I actually did not join the team as a freshman. I joined the Penguins last year as a junior, after playing travel. I only knew a few people walking into tryouts, and I found the experience very inviting. Everyone on the team is so nice, and it’s my favorite part of my day to go to practice and see my teammates.”

The Penguins have a history of winning most of their games, as well as winning states in the 2013-14 season. Most are hoping to achieve that goal again, including Salem seniors Brianna Waggoner and Bryanna Lanzilotti. Waggoner said, “Freshman year I came on to the team only knowing one person and I was definitely one of the shy ones on the team. I quickly opened up and we won state champs that year. These past two years I was lucky enough to be chosen as a captain to help support my team. I’m pretty sure we are all wishing to accomplish a D1 championship. It’s going to be a hard season trying to get there but hopefully it will pay off.”

Lanzilotti  said, “It would be great to win states my senior year, but what do they say? Win or lose, we’re still a family and I wouldn’t change the season for anything.”Grace GrelakGrace Grelak
