Winter Orchestra Concert

P-CEP is flooded with talented students, which is evident if you have ever been to an orchestra concert at the Park. These come once every few months and are a must-see for any music lover. Varying levels of performers play, from middle school orchestras to the highest group of them all, Symphony. The Winter Concert is a favorite among many, and this show fills every seat in the Gloria Logan Auditorium. Each group plays a selection of orchestral classics and catchy Christmas tunes.  The Orchestra prepared for months to put on this performance. Weston Welch, Salem sophomore, is a violin player and the Concert Master. “Even though the music was challenging, we still had fun with it,” said Welch.

Canton Senior and Bass player Liam Deppong agreed, saying, “It’s a great way to celebrate the holidays.”

Catherine Depentu, the Orchestra Director, worked hard to guide her students through the pieces. Her hard work paid off, as she is proud of the overall outcome. “It was a great concert. We played well, the audience received it well. We played music we were proud of,” said Depentu.

The Orchestra members love creating beautiful melodies of classical music, but one of the highlights of the night is seeing the audience enjoy it so much. Canton senior and viola player Sydney Good said, “It’s our most popular concert and it’s a really nice feeling to know your audience wants to hear you and is excited.”

Emily Jakovljeski, Salem senior, is in the first violin section. She practiced for hours to prepare for this highly anticipated concert, and was pleased at how the night went. “I love playing at the winter concert! It’s fun music that everyone knows. It just makes you happy to see so many people enjoying your playing,” said Jakovljeski.
